Before Andy Griffin was a the Sheriff of Mayberry, he was a comic. One of his most famous routines was called, “What it was, was football.” He describes a scenario where he watched a football game before he knew what football was. It was funny. I recently had a similar situation that reminded me of that.
The other night I was flipping channels on the satellite and stopped on what I thought was the most amazing find. It was a show with some half-dressed women women dancing on a beach in a way that was very exciting for a man to watch. The camera was focusing on the body of these women as they moved their hips in a way that kept me from changing the channel.
My first thought was that the satellite company had made a mistake and we were getting one of those channels that we shouldn’t be getting. It turns out, I was watching the fitTv and these women were teaching belly dancing as an excercise routine. But, it was an excercise show, and it was fascinating.
Of course the wife walked in and asked, “what are you watching”, “is there anything else on.” Of course I asked her if she could move her hips like that. She didn’t want to answer. She finally said, Yes, but it wouldn’t look like that. Well that doesn’t help me at all. I am only interested in how it looks, not how it feels.
I am now very interested in watching this phenomna. Anything with women showing more skin on their body and learning how to move their hips in a provactive way is ok with me.
The show is actually called “Shimmy” and its tag line on the website is, “Get ready for a sensual workout, and celebrate your passion!”
Here are some of the moves:
3/4 Shimmy:
Definitely one of the more difficult moves, but a must learn for all belly dancers. Hips take turns moving up and down – motioning to the side in a traveling step or in place to catch the rhythm and emotion of the music.
Hip Circle:
One of the most sultry moves in belly dance; this hip isolation exudes sensuality while toning abs, hips and glutes
