Knight Rider – A shadowy Flight Into The Dangerous World Of A Man Who Does Not Exist

The popular 1980s television show Knight Rider is back. The original show ran from hat originally ran from September 26, 1982, to August 8, 1986.  It had a overacting crimefighter with a smart ass car and it worked.

KITT

Tonight, the new version titled Knight Rider 2008 starring new people will air for the first time.  The new star, besides the car, is Justin Bruening.

Can anyone remember the following things?

What does KITT stand for? – Knight Industries Two Thousand

Why was the main character doing as the premis of the show?    – Self-made billionaire Wilton Knight rescues police detective Michael Long after a near fatal shot to the face, giving him a new identity and a new name: Michael Knight. Wilton selects Michael to be the muscle in the pilot program of his Knight Foundation-funded public justice organization, the Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG). The other half of this pilot program is the Knight 2000, a car controlled by a computer with artificial intelligence, KITT. Michael and KITT are brought in during situations where “direct action might provide the only feasible solution.”

I have to admit that I used watch the original a long time ago.  The technology of the car was probably not that great compared to the new show, but it was pretty awesome back then.  Next to the Dukes of Hazzard,  that was probably the most popular television show that had a vehicle as a main character.

I will admit that I liked the original show, if the people in charge of television will finally admit that they have run out of ideas.  What is next,  BJ and the Bear 2009, Leave it to Beaver – the twighlight years, or the Munsters?

I found a great site called Knight Rider Online that couldn’t be more excited about the show coming back.  They even have a countdown.

I think I am excited about the new Knight Rider.  It will probably be one of those things where I will watch the first episode just to see how they tie it in to the original.  I dont plan on watching any after that.

I managed to do this entire post with mentioning the name David Hasseshoff. (Damn it)
