The popularity of Fantasy Football is amazing. Ten years ago, you were labeled a geek if you played, now the actual NFL players are playing. I found an interesting topic on chicks in the huddle.
I love it and have been playing it for ten years. The truth is that I am not a geek, I’m probably the person that made it cool. I think everyone else in the world saw me playing and decided it was ok. I have one NFL team that I follow and I literally hate all the rest. Playing fantasy football makes games between the rest of those teams interesting.
Now, what do wives think about it? Wives hate it. At least mine does. She will plan out a specific time when she can Just sit down in the living room and watch Greys’ Anatomy, or a lifetime movie where women do extrordinary things and men not wearing sweaters are evil. I have to take the remote and turn the television on some random football game between two last place teams located 2,000 miles away because I have their kicker on one of my fantasy teams. She really hates that.
I always knew that wives hate it, but I did not know were organized until I found Women against fantasy sports.com.

I just recently came across that site too, and I don’t agree with it. I was a hater. I wouldn’t watch, think about or participate in any sports. Period. I hated Sundays for taking my husband from me. I figured I could fight it, “make” him stop watching and playing FF, but what good would that do? He’s always been supportive of me, lord knows how many chick flicks he’s endured. Anyway, I figured I owed it to him to give football a chance and 5 years later, I’m a loyal Panther’s fan and play on 3 fantasy leagues and 2 Pick ‘Ems. I’ve recently taken it upon myself to challenge a group of women to join me in an all girl fantasy football league. The goal is to educate these women on the game and sport, and to bring them closer to their husbands. I’m tracking the progress on my site and I invite you to watch as these women transform from Women Against Fantasy Sports to Women Who Love Football!
Thanks
Julie

My Website is the counter to WAFS. My goal is to get women more involved in it.
It is called Girls’ Guide to Fantasy Football (or GG2FF).
1) Agreed, 10 + fantasy leagues is overboard
2) Agreed, all obsessions/addictions are dangerous
3) Agreed, it is a good idea for people to have a place to share in their struggles (ie – I hate cilantro.com)
However, I don’t think fantasy sports is the problem, it is just the excuse for something else awry. I believe many women (and men) will extract a lot of enjoyment from playing the game and aim to help them do so.
